How to Remove and Install Skate Bearings

By Stan | 2019

Before starting, you will need to identify whether your skates use a 6mm or an 8mm axle and have the appropriate tools to remove the axles.

Supplies

Instructions

  1. Take off the wheels being careful not to strip the axle heads.

  2. Once the wheels are free, remove the bearings using one of the following methods:

8mm axles – Pry out the first bearing using a bearing puller in the middle of the hub. Slowly rotate the wheel while leveraging the bearing to pull it out of the hub.

6mm axles – Push the bearing out using a skate tool pressed against the middle of the bearing spacer.

2nd bearing - Remove the spacer and push the bearing out from the back side of the wheel.

  3. To put the bearing back in, seat the bearing in the hub and press it firmly into the hub by pressing it down onto a flat surface. Put your spacer in and then repeat with the other bearing.
