How to Select a Roller Hockey Girdle

Roller hockey girdles are worn underneath roller hockey pants and offer protection to the hips, thighs, tailbone, and sometimes the kidneys. It's important to choose a roller hockey girdle that not only fits properly but gives you the most comfortable experience possible. At IW Hockey, we recommend wearing a protective girdle for better protection and we classify them in two different fits; Compression and Traditional.

Fit Profile

When choosing a girdle, it's important to choose the one that is going to give you the most comfort underneath your roller hockey pants and during your gameplay.

Traditional roller hockey girdles have a classic, looser-fitting design from top to bottom. They offer more internal room which provides a much more relaxed fit.

Compression girdles offer a more fitted style, meaning the material hugs the body and stays tight on the skin, which provides maximum mobility and responsiveness.

Girdle Construction

Materials: Roller hockey girdles are built with a mixture of polyester, nylon, and spandex to ensure top-level performance. They work together to help with mobility, durability, and comfort along with providing moisture-wicking properties.

Waistband: Compression girdles will have an elastic waistband that sits snug against the waist but offers stretch to expand to different waist sizes. More traditional fitting girdles generally have a nylon waistband that allows players to adjust the fit and to help the waistband sit more firmly against the waist.

Protection: This is located in key impact areas such as the thighs, hips, and tailbone. Each area is constructed with some form of foam protection and can range in the density of foam thickness. More high-end girdles offer higher-density foams for better impact protection. Some foams offer perforation for better breathability, so choose the level of protection and coverage that's right for you. Lastly, almost all girdles include cup protection to ensure coverage to one of the most vital areas of the body.
