How to Remove and Install Skate Bearings
Before starting, you will need to identify whether your skates use a 6mm or an 8mm axle and have the appropriate tools to remove the axles.
Supplies
Instructions
- Take off the wheels being careful not to strip the axle heads.
- Once the wheels are free, remove the bearings using one of the following methods:
8mm axles – Pry out the first bearing using a bearing puller in the middle of the hub. Slowly rotate the wheel while leveraging the bearing to pull it out of the hub.
6mm axles – Push the bearing out using a skate tool pressed against the middle of the bearing spacer.
2nd bearing - Remove the spacer and push the bearing out from the back side of the wheel. - To put the bearing back in, seat the bearing in the hub and press it firmly into the hub by pressing it down onto a flat surface. Put your spacer in and then repeat with the other bearing.
