Great on old kneesI saw that Salba wears these so I gave them a try. I believe the original idea is they help prevent hard plastic knee pads from sliding during impact, which could expose skin and lead to abrasion. For that design they work great. But if you also wanted to wear a low profile pad like under a pair of pants, these could also help prevent abrasion and give a minimal amount of padding. They are made out of neoprene which keeps your knee joints warm. For old joints this is great for mobility, my knees are loving them and I always wear them now as part of my regular skate attire. If you live in a really hot climate, perhaps Old Bones Therapy brand would be better. But the price is right for the Smith Scabs. Would order again from inlinewarehouse as shipping was prompt.

Great knee protectionThese gaskets are a happy medium between wearing no knee protection and full on plastic capped knee pads. They will prevent you from skinning your knee when you fall on concrete or other surfaces. They easily fit underneath a pair of loose fitting jeans and have no effect on mobility. Especially in a discipline like street skating where falls are more or less inevitable do yourself a favor and get these, and say goodbye to bleeding knees.
Best for derbyI can't wear knee pads without gaskets for roller derby. These keep my pads from slipping or moving when I take a fall which has literally saved my knees. The scabs gaskets fit really well, great length for coverage using multi different brands of knee pads. The knee cap gap is excellent for a great fit and keeps them secure and comfortable.

Comments: I haven't taken any spills yet, so I can't speak to how protective they are, but I've been wearing these as a standalone knee pad for urban skating and have found them extremely comfortable. They dry fairly quickly too, which is nice if you want to wear them on back-to-back days. They recommend washing after each use, but I've been cleaning them every 3 skates or so and it's been fine.
