Overview

The Lightning is back and better than ever. The Rollerblade Lightning 90 Men's Skates look fantastic in black with champagne colored frames, and we love the features . 90mm wheels puts them in that sweet spot for both speed and agility.  An every day skate that can be used to urban freeskate, fitness skate, commute, or to just have fun! Although labeled "men's"  it is really a unisex model that fits the same as the Rollerblade Lightning 90 Women's.  To check out the same skate with sangria colored frames, check out the women's version and order one size larger.

The 2024 Lightning Skates are the first with Rollerblade's Memory Buckles (both the 45-degree AND cuff positions). This allows you to get them on and off quick and easy, with micro-adjustability that is able to be set and remembered for the next time you skate.  Molded plastic shells are strong and responsive, but with multiple ventilation cutouts to keep feet cool and dry. Anatomical, sublimated, and removable liners hold feet comfortably and safely. Performance Skate Insoles and shock absorber under the heel help to withstand impacts and provide additional comfort. Each boot covers a full size range (i.e. 9.0-9.5) to make sizing easy. Place the Footboard Sizer (included) under the footbed to raise/lower the foot and change volume.  Metal frame mounting blocks at the base attach strong extruded aluminum frames (removable and adjustable) for efficient energy transfer and synergy between the boot and frame.

Features high-quality Hydrogen SE 90mm 85A Wheels & SG9 Bearings (brake is included in the box).

KEY TECHNOLOGIES

Footboard Sizer
A slim insole that removes/adds volume when placed under the footbed. Included in the skate box, they help each boot cover a full size range (i.e. 9.0-9.5), making them easy to size with the ability to provide a more snug or more relaxed fit.

Memory Buckle Closure System
Micro-adjustable buckles with multiple connection points. Once set, a single pull on the internal side allows the skater to get out of the skates quickly, and back in them at the same precise setting enjoyed previously without any adjustment.

Sizing Chart

GENERAL SKATE SIZING GUIDELINES
Measure both feet with socks similar to those in which you intend to skate. Then use the measurement of the longest point and reference the model-specific size chart to determine size. How to Measure Your Feet for Skates.
Proper fit has the toes not being cramped against the front. Toes may slightly brush the front as heels will settle back when in the skating position. Try on skates indoors while in a seated position. Lace and buckle both skates, tap your heels to the floor, and then stand and bend your knees to simulate the skating position. They're pretty goodI am a size 9 US and these skates did not fit me well. I picked the 9-9.5 size option and they did not work for me. They were too loose around the ankle and heel but that may just be my body type. I didn't have many problems with these during the three weeks that I wore them other than aforementioned fitting issues and the clasps getting a little worn out (probably because I had them so tight around my ankle and heel).

Sizing is trickyI had a pair of Zetrablades (size m 11). They were my first pair since I was a child, and for the price they were fine, but they were simply too big. The size 10s were way too small, but 11s were WAY too big. After skating for a year in the boots that didn't fit, I wanted to upgrade. I got the 10-10.5 and they were SO small, even though the measuring system said they would fit. I ended up getting 11-11.5 and they fit perfect. My point being the sizing between different models is very inconsistent. BUT now that I have my 11s, I absolutely love them. The boots are heavy, but I can gain speed and stay going fast for a long time. I am loving these blades!

Skating is a PassionI have been off skates for about 10 years and finally got back into it and this was the perfect pair for me. In my teens and early twenties I played roller hockey, went to skate parks, and bombed down big hills. I took a break when I moved over seas but now that I am back I am ready to cruise again. The 90mm wheels on these make most surfaces a breeze to skate on and are especially fast on smooth concrete easily reaching 18mph

Great customer service, great skatesI had to contact customer service a number of times because I purchased the incorrect style, then size of skate. They solved my issues efficiently and satisfactorily every time. I’m pretty new to inline skating so I don’t have a ton of insight into the skates themselves, but they’re apparently very well made of quality material and I’m very happy with my experience.

Great after break-inMy feet measure 29.2 cm long and 11.2 cm wide, and I contacted customer support to ask what size to purchase. They said that Rollerblade is really trying to be true-to-size, and that I should get the 11/11.5 size as the sizing chart suggests. I typically wear size 13 shoes to avoid rubbing on the ends of my toes, and I have two different pairs of size 12 skates that fit well, so I was a little concerned, but I went with it. When I first got the skates, it felt like my concern had been warranted. I really struggled to jam my feet into the skates, I kept them on for just a few minutes, and my feet were sore for a couple of hours afterwards. But then I tried again the next day, and it wasn't quite as bad. And the next day it was even better... After several sessions totaling perhaps a couple of hours, they were great. Plenty comfortable for an hour or two of skating at a time, and very precise and supportive. I am glad I endured the break-in process to get the most secure fit. The skates look awesome (frames are an unexpected high point) and everything feels very premium. I was coming from 80's, and these 90's are a step smoother riding over cracks and rough pavement. I'm really happy with these skates.

Excellent for entry/advanced street skatingHadn't inline nor ice skated since the 80's. Now at age 67 wanted to give it a whirl again! Carefully researched the skate possibilities (with great help from Inline Warehouse staff) and came up with these skates (for street maneuverability), along with the Powerslide R2 100 (for long stride stability). Bought them both and couldn't be happier! I would rate each of them as PERFECT! The Rollerblade Lightning seems to run true to size. I'm a men's 8.5 US size and I got the 8.0-8.5 size, which is just right for me with a medium thickness sock. Definitely prefer the 90mm wheels over the 80mm size I had years ago. Plenty maneuverable for street skating, with much better rolling over rough stuff. Thanks MUCH Inline Warehouse staff for helping to get me "dialed in" to just the right skates for my late-in-life reentry into the FUN world of inline skating! (though properly padded-up for safety!)

Great fit, great quality for priceI ordered these after using FRX 80s for a while, and this feels like a big step up. Build quality and appearance are nice. The ride is smooth, fast, and predictable. The buckle system works really well. And the sizing is realistic, for a change. I normally wear a 47/13M hiking boot, and it's a struggle to find skates that aren't too tight. With these, the 13/13.5 size fits perfectly with the downsizing inserts - actually a bit large without them. They snug right up when ratcheted in, but they're not a struggle to get on and off. Even the stock liner is really nice. I like to support smaller brands, but it seems like Rollerblade has really figured some things out.

Fast and stableI upgraded to the Lightning 90s from some ancient (20+ year old) Rollerblades. The new Lightnings are faster, more comfortable, and I even feel more stable wearing them. I was between the 80s and these, but I chose these for just a little more speed and the upgraded wheels.

Back on wheels after many yearsThis is a fantastic skate, from the time you strap it on it feels great. Comfortable liner, breathes well, and that's saying a lot from a someone in SW Florida. The wheels are comfortable and bearings roll great, I bought the 90s and the 80s for my Son and I. After about 15 miles ridden, I still really like them. Bought another set for my other son too. Btw inlinewarehouse ships FAST, I wouldn't buy anywhere else. $600+ in skates now and I couldn't be happier.

Lightning 90Excellent skate and great value. Comfortable boot. Memory buckles work well. Solid aluminum frame mounts with adjustable frame (laterally). Great stock wheels and bearings. Be sure to consider frame length: in my size 10, I much prefer the stability of a 4x90mm wheel setup (compared to 4x80mm) which really does not sacrifice much maneuverability.

Lightning 90You can't beat the price for what you receive. Great skate, good frame, great wheels and bearings. I need a wide toe box and these are exactly that. I added Nomad liners, a sizing spacer, adjusted the frame position and am very satisfied with the final outcome. The buckle system has pros and cons, but they work.

Return to skateHello! I stopped skating back in the 2000s due to my big and wise feet. I literally outgrew the hobby. For years I would try to find a way to get back into it but manufacturers weren't exactly accommodating. As I have gotten more active these days, I randomly took a look to see what was available. I caught wind of the Rollerblade RBXLs and strongly considered them. The reason I went with the Lightnings instead was due to customization. Rollerblade, make the RBXLs customizable! As for the actual purchase, they're awesome! I'm a 6'5, 290lbs man with size 14 wide feet(not extra wide). At first, I wasn't sure if the skates fit well, but after about a week of breaking them in, they feel great. Snug but enough room for those who need it. It will "pinch" your ankle area at first. If you're a diabetic, wear the loose compression socks if the boot feels too tight. Once the breaking in period is done, you can switch back to a regular tall sock when needed. The foot sizer is a great help for those half size skaters. The people at Inline Warehouse were fantastic! I ordered these skates and they arrived two days later even with free shipping. Their discount bundles are very appealing. I will buy from them again, as I'm considering changing the rails and getting 3x110s.

Great skates, better companyI purchased these to get back into skating as a nearly-40-year-old after a couple decades away from the hobby. Firstly, these skates are awesome. I wear a size 11 shoe normally, but the size chart seemed to recommend getting the 10-10.5 size based on actual measurements so I went with that. I ordered them over the Thanksgiving period and got a nice discount from InlineWarehouse. Unfortunately, they ended up being a little too small. When I went to return/exchange them, literally every size of the skate was now out of stock. After emailing IW, they recommended just returning the skate for now, and when the size 11s came in a month or so later--even though the discount was long gone--the fine folks at IW applied the same discount to my new order. I've been having a blast on them since then, and they are really well made and breaking in nicely. Thanks again IW; you've made a customer for life!

Great skatesFirst time using slightly bigger wheels but I didn't notice any difference in adjusting to the minimal added height as many online complain about. The wheels themselves are great. I took them right out onto the street and started zooming. The skates themselves are very secure and comfortable. I love the memory straps, so easy to dial in that perfect fit and go back to it every time. Great skates I can'r recommend them enough.

Great skate and serviceLightning 90 skates are well-built and solid. 90mm hydrogen wheels provide a smooth ride even on somewhat rough asphalt. Also, “shout out” to Brian from Inline Warehouse who helped me with sizing and made sure the fit was right. All in all, great skates and a great experience. THANKS to IW!!!

First skateHind sight I wish I got the 80mm to learn on. It ended up being okay in the end. I ordered some 80mm wheels and some smaller frames to get better. Now, I have 90 mm to put on when I want more speed.

Great skate for large feetI'm just now getting back into skating after a 25 year hiatus. I'm my younger days, I had K2 soft boot skates. They didn't bother me but now I'm older and want something I can upgrade the frames with. My feet are 12.25in/31.115cm. I tried ordering 3 different pair that looked as though I could fit into, only to find they were too small with their largest size. I finally asked for help from an IW associate who looked into my needs and found these for me. I tried the lightning 110 but just couldn't deal with all that bright white on my feet. The 90 uses the exact same boot (but black). The 14/14.5 fit perfectly for me. There's a little break in period for the liner to mold to my ankles for comfort. They are stable as they come but, I was also able to change the frame to a RB Overdrive which can accommodate 4-90mm or 3-110mm wheels. This was also discovered by suggestion from an IW associate after learning what I wanted from the skates. It's nice to be able to swap out wheel sizes for different applications. If there was anything I would suggest to improve the skate, it would be to include the overdrive frame so that buyers would have that option without needing to upgrade. Other than that, it's a great skate. My feet feel great going into them and they don't hurt after skating. The wheels are good on pavement and the included bearings really fly. Racing oil will most likely make them even faster but, I haven't feel the need to swap out from stock grease yet.

Back in the saddle againI've started rollerblading again at age 68. It is awesome! My previous "Aero Blades", with 80mm wheels, were 25-30 years old, in remarkably good shape. But I wanted to buy a modern pair. I was a little concerned about choosing the 90 mm wheels, but they have been great. It took no effort switching to my new skates. I love the memory buckles. Rollerblade could improve on this model, however, by ditching the laces completely and just adding a third memory buckle. My old aero blades have three buckles and they secure your foot really well. The laces on the Lightning 90 provide no real support and just slow down the process of putting on your skates. Other than the laces, these skates are really good!

Comfortable now. The first 10 minutes still cause a little foot/near ankle muscle cramp. OK after warmed up. I may have to adjust or center the frame under the boot. Not sure if this is possible(?). But It is now more comfortable than 15 yr old my Seba FR1 size 10 (which pinches a little sometimes), for ~$150 less. All in all, good skates for a decent price. But its reliability & durability remains to be seen.

An OK upgrade (Beginner)I purchased the Lightning 90s as an upgrade from the Rollerblade Zetrablade (ZB) while still learning. The "memory" or quick latch buckles and aluminum rails are definitely welcome additions compared to the ZB. I have noticed a improvement in speed with the 90mm wheels. The rails lack any guidance markings so fine tuning the alignment is not really a feature. I feel the Rollerblade went way overboard with the padding in the boots. I have bony ankles and found myself having to cut into the boot to tear out some of the extra foam. That made a minor improvement but I still have pressure point issues with these most of the time. As far as the price, I feel that the $299 tag was a bit high for the lack of features and annoyances...my ankles :-) Overall, these were good beginner upgrades but I feel that I will probably steer clear of the Rollerblade brand on my next purchase and experiment with some of the other higher quality manufacturers with, better comfort, now that I am really getting into it. Would I recommend,? Sure. They seem really durable and have good speed. If you are like me and have bony ankles though, maybe go with something that has a softer shell or boot.

Solid outing from RBOut of the box these are pretty dang comfortable. And unlike the RB110, which I also own, these are true to size. I wear a shoe size 14 and these are perfect. I have them in 14.5 mode (sans insole) but with the insole it’s a snugger fit if that’s your preference. I also think my feet lean toward wide and no issue there. Only gripe is the buckles feel like they may not last a long time. But they are easily replaced (no rivets)

Rollerblade Lightning 90These are the latest skates in my collection and so far I am pleased with them. The construction is good and the boot and frames are solid. Break-in was relatively quick (about 2-3hrs of actual skating) and they look like they will be very comfortable for the foreseeable future. Some notes on fit: I measured my feet using Rollerblade's method and originally ordered a size 11. This turned out to be far too small and I needed to size up to a 12. I can still feel the toe of the liner, but it isn't uncomfortable. The toe box is actually quite narrow for an urban skate so I recommend sizing up on these from what you measure out at. My only true gripe is the thin piece of plastic that attaches the metal buckle to the boot. It is very flimsy feeling and I don't think it will hold up long term to repeated bending so I will probably order a couple of replacements from Rollerblade ahead of time. The good news is that it just screws on (no rivets) so it would take all of 90 seconds to swap it out.

Quality skate for great priceOwning much more expensive premium quality carbon shell/intuition liner skates, as well as cheaper plastic boots: the Lightning 90s hit a perfect sweet spot. The liner is surprisingly comfortable, the boot plastic feels super high quality, the finish is much more attractive than many plastic boots I’ve had, and the hardware is high quality and not cheap feeling. These boots feel bomb-proof in the hand yet surprisingly lite. Special features I love include the power transfer of the aluminum frame, the Hydrogen wheels that are great even with the coating still on them, as well as the memory buckles (I’ve come to enjoy how quickly one can get these on and off). I plan on using these mostly for urban and fitness as I rehab my knee back into skating, but even doing a few swivels (as I try to get back to Wizard skating slowly) I can tell when the wheels naturally rocker, it’s gonna be a fun summer. P.S. totally bought these over the Twister XT for the nostalgia pangs…. I really missed my TRS from decades ago and am very happy with this updated re-boot (pun intended). Cheers to a good ride.

Designer missed the boatI was very excited to get these long-awaited skates. Everything is admirable about them except one thing. The laces are totally useless. Pull on the laces as much as you can but they don't budge the lower shell of the boot one bit. The laces are basically for show and have no function except to get in your way and be a hassle to deal with. I returned my skates after trying them on in my living room because I realized that after these liners get packed out a bit there would be no way to adjust pressure around my forward foot area. Rollerblade really missed the boat on this design. This boot would have been ideal with a third lower buckle, making it a sweet three-buckle boot. Hopefully this review helps to upgrade the next iteration. Best wishes.

Nice upgradeThese are great! Very fast and comfortable. I upgraded from Macroblade 80's in a size 9. The lightnings size 9.0 - 9.5 were too snug my toes felt cramped so I reordered in size 10 - 10.5 and they are awesome. The size chart told me 9 but I wear a size 10 shoe normally.
