The RipTide 10mm Skate Cushions are high performance replacement cushions with a relatively short 10mm height that can help resolve slide block compatibility issues. Many slide blocks use a mounting bar that sits around the kingpins and adds a bit of height to your whole cushion and truck assembly. That extra height can force the trucks into an unnatural position that feels funky and can even lead to broken components. Shorter cushions to the rescue!
To avoid messing with the geometry of your trucks, the plateside cushion can often be replaced with one of these shorter 10mm cushions. Along with the added height from the block's mounting bar, your plates should be back close to their intended geometry. And even better, you're not just locked into a few hardness choices with RipTide - they have two cushion formulas, which you can learn more about below, and various hardnesses in each formula!
| RIPTIDE FORMULAS EXPLAINED | |
|---|---|
| APS The APS formula is described as having a lively and responsive feel because of its high-rebound characteristics. APS is RipTide's most popular formula and great for derby jammers and dual-positional players, outdoor skaters, and anyone new to roller skating or new to changing cushions. RipTide recommends 75A-80A as a starting point for most skaters. |
|
| KRANK The Krank formula is RipTide's hardest cushion formula and provides a solid base with strong edge support to give skaters precise control over their skates. RipTide recommends Krank for aggressive skating styles and disciplines like derby blockers, park skaters, and speed skaters, with 84A being the recommended starting hardness for most skaters. |
