Best Urban Skates of 2020

A carry-over pick from last year, this Flying Eagle is an easy choice for the best value skate.

Durability: 7/10

This skate is insane. It keeps up with the big boys with reinforced mounting pads, shock absorbers, replaceable sliders and dual buckle closures... for under $175! The boot may not be as rugged as the top names out there but for the but with the incredible price tag, we'll let it slide.

Control: 9/10

Small wheels (76 or 80mm depending on skate size) make this skate very maneuverable. The high-quality frame and wheels not only add to the awe of the super low price tag, but they also add great response and control.

Comfort: 7/10

By no means is this a box store skate, but the low price tag is most apparent in the liner. It costs the skates a few points here but they are still a comfortable ride. The liner may not be as fancy as the high-end models but they are comfortable right out of the box and accommodate wide feet and high arches.

With replaceable (and customizable) components, this is a rugged skate that keeps on ticking. Built from the ground up for the street, every part of the boot has been designed to be rigid and durable.

The new Anti-Torsion box on the bottom of the skates makes the sole super stiff, enhancing the response over previous Twister models. The 3x110mm frames are a bit long compared to other urban skates so if you prefer pure control over speed, opt for one of the 80mm setups. Stiff, high-quality components keep the skates from getting away from you.

Comfort: 9/10

Twisters are notoriously stiff out of the box but give them a little break in and they are like heaven. This year's models are no exception!

Durability: 10/10

A 270-degree slider at the front of the skate and grindable frame make these skates extremely rugged. Aside from the replaceable parts, the main construction of the skate is beefy enough to stand up to some serious punishment.

Control: 9/10

The grinding "wings" on the frame integrate well with the Trinity frame shape to allow for great control during rail slides. The 90mm wheel setup offers good speed while keeping you low to the ground for better control.

Comfort: 10/10

The Next Boot offers one of the most forgiving fits out of any high-performance skates available. Customizable cuff positioning helps add fine-tuned support to make you feel even more comfortable. Overall, the roomy toebox wins our staff's heart for accomplishing awesome comfort while still keeping a responsive feel.

Durability: 8/10

The "skeleton" style boot is made of rugged plastic, meant to survive the life of a street commuter. Almost all of the parts on this skate are replaceable, meaning the shell itself is easily maintainable. For all of the durability of the shell, it does lose some points in honor of the shoes you leave exposed to possible wipe outs.

Control: 8/10

Larger wheels coupled with the unique "strap in your own shoes" design make this skate a little less responsive than some of the other skates on this list but that same design is what gives you the ability to seamlessly jump from skating to walking onto a commuter train. Control while skating? We give it an 8. Controlling your commute overall? Definitely a 10!

Comfort: 10/10

You reap what you sow here. The skate uses your own shoes so it is as comfortable as you make it.
