The CCM Premier R1.9 Goalie Leg Pads have many of the great features found on the professional version, and are perfect for any goaltender wanting a high quality blocking style pad without the high price tag.
The CCM Premier R1.9 leg pads are designed to produce powerful rebounds that allow the goaltender to reset and move into position for a potential second save. The leg pads achieve this due to the extremely rigid internal foams that give excellent re-distribution of energy. While the pads have no visible breaks there is a single internal core break below the knee to allow better flexibility, and CCM has kept the pad above the knee completely rigid to ensure a strong 5 hole closure. The thin profile design helps improve center of mass when moving and dropping into the butterfly, as well as reduces weight, resulting in the lightest Premier pad to date.
The new strapping system is the brainchild of a massive research and development undertaking from CCM while partnered with a Canadian university. The study concluded that because the upper calf was more important than previously realized, the old system was actually slightly hindering the speed when dropping into the butterfly. Due to this study, CCM altered the straps to include a larger elastic calf strap and removed the bottom calf strap entirely.
The Premier R1.9 has a flat-faced front that reduces the overall pad weight and ensures more predictable rebounds, a feature that has become a staple of the Premier series. The CCM Premier R1.9 has the extremely popular bindingless flat inside edge design where the leg channel foam makes contact with the ice. This feature helps the pad seal to the ice and reduces the "caking" of snow that occurs on the bottom of the pad that limits sliding efficiency.
The Premier R1.9 leg pad has an upgraded under-pant thigh protector that gives excellent protection to the knee and thigh area, but is also removable to accommodate other knee guards. CCM's PE foam knee stack keeps the goaltender's knee elevated, reducing overall joint stress and allowing for increased leg extension. The deeper leg channel and shallow soft boot flex allows for powerful pushes and keeps the leg pads contoured to the shin and skates for precise pad movements and control.
