Overview

The Lightning name is legendary, but today's Rollerblade Lightning 80 Men's Skates are making history. They are designed to please in any environment, whether it urban freestyle skating, fitness skating, or skating just for fun.  Although labeled "men's"  by RB, it is really a unisex model that fits the same as the Rollerblade Lightning 80 Women's.  If looking for a lighter color way, check out the women's version and just order one size larger.

The Lightning boots were the first to feature Rollerblade's Memory Buckles (both the 45-degree AND cuff positions). This allows you to get them on and off faster than most, with micro-adjustability set and remembered for the next time you skate. Lightning Liners are super comfortable with anatomical padding. Inside are PSI footbeds, shock erasers, and footboard sizers for fit adjustments. The boots are nice and strong with plenty of ventilation cutouts and replaceable lateral sliders.  So they are strong and responsive for urban freestyle skating, but with airflow (more than the Maxxum and Twister) and comfort to skate for fitness, commuting, or just for fun! The base of the boots have metal frame mounting blocks to attach strong extruded aluminum frames (removable and adjustable) for efficient energy transfer and synergy between the boot and frame.

Featues high-quality Urban 80mm 85A Wheels & SG7 Bearings (brake is included in the box).

KEY TECHNOLOGIES

Footboard Sizer
A slim insole that removes/adds volume when placed under the footbed. Included in the skate box, they help each boot cover a full size range (i.e. 9.0-9.5), making them easy to size with the ability to provide a more snug or more relaxed fit.

Memory Buckle Closure System
Micro-adjustable buckles with multiple connection points. Once set, a single pull on the internal side allows the skater to get out of the skates quickly, and back in them at the same precise setting enjoyed previously without any adjustment.

A few words on fittingComing from ice/inline hockey skates I wanted something more appropriate for parking lot and casual rips. These are absolute beauties I wish I could have had them back in ‘92. Now on the subject of fit, after putting too much thought into this here is what I settled on. On the Bauer fit lab I measured right at 26cm fit 3. I wear a CCM jetspeed 690 in 7D and Alkali Revel 2 in 7. I picked these up in 8-8.5 and with a heat gun carefully warming up the liner and wearing them while watching TV they are breaking in perfectly. Long story short, get fitted and use your mondopoint & trust that the liner will form around your foot. Also look at how the boot fits with the liner pulled out, push your toes to the endcap a little more than one finger space is perfect, 2 fingers space is too big.

ExcellentComing from old recreational K2 skates, these are more comfortable boots and they ride smooth. I really like them. They are lightweight. No complaints after a month of using them. Would totally recommend.

Great for allJust getting back into skating after 20 years. I am not trying to be on the X-games, but just cruise around the streets of my town and generally be more active. I did careful research and ended up in a pair of Lightnings. They are true to fit and are snug, tight and comfortable. I really wanted a hardboot for stability and this was one of the most affordable ones with that feature. Though technically not a beginner, I really couldn't imagine a better pair to come back to skating. A great balance of speed and control. The bearings and 80 wheels roll awesome, though I am eyeing the 90's now that I have gotten used to the speed.

Amazing skatesThese skates are simply amazing. The quality, comfort, design, look, etc are all perfect IMO, especially at this price point. The buckle design is just genius and of very high quality. I'm a very consistent 10.5 shoe and the 11-11.5 size is perfect for me and I'm not using the sizer footboard. The insole is quite good with a nice arch support molding. I did however put a Dr Scholls all purpose athletic insole on top of the stock liner for a little added cushion and the combo is a dream. But they are super comfortable right out of the box for sure, with no additional insole. These skates have far exceeded my expectations. So smooth, so comfortable and just awesome all around. I'm just getting back in the game after 10 years, but it's hard to imagine any level of skater not being very impressed with these lightning skates. Looking forward to many years on them. Highly recommended.

Great all-purpose inline skatesIt's been years since I spent any time on a pair of inline skates, but I always loved it. As a result, when I realized the years were catching up with me and fitness had slipped too far down on the priority list - I decided that inline skating was going to be the activity to change that. I've had them for a month now, and I can definitely attest to feeling the workout. The great thing about these skates, however, is they're not getting in the way of enjoying it. The ride is smooth and I can build up a lot more speed than is probably safe for my rusty skills. The only concern I have is that the sizing chart would have put me an entire size down from the measurements, but I opted to go with my usual athletic shoe size. While the return/exchange policy is generous, I appreciated getting the size right the first time so I didn't have to take advantage of that. If I had ordered according to the chart, they would have been too small. So, perhaps consider that while ordering?

Fantastic entry point for hard bootsStill very new to skating and a friend recommended these and couldn't be happier! They really lock in and feel very secure which has helped me greatly in feeling confident as I continue learning. Great quality and really feel like they are something that can grow with you. Highly recommend for any beginner/intermediate skater.

Great skatesVery comfortable, look good, durable, and great wheels. As someone who never rollerbladed before, I'm happy I got these as my first pair. They were worth every dollar. The only thing is that while i was trying to practice a hockey stop my top strap came off, but thats just my fault. Still excellent inlines and I would definetely order from here again.

Totally awesomeSo glad I went with the Lightnings—these skates are seriously awesome! Super comfortable, super smooth, and incredibly easy to maneuver. Plus, they look slick. I actually got stopped on my very first outing—turns out, they’re not just great skates, they’re also friend magnets! Since then, I’ve upgraded them with the Overdrive frame and 90mm wheels (110s are on the way!), and wow—they just keep getting better. As a lifelong indoor roller hockey player, I was searching for something that could handle outdoor terrain without sacrificing performance. These are *it*. The build quality is top-notch, the buckle system is super secure, and honestly, I’m pretty sure the laces are just there to look cool. Totally worth it!

Exactly What I WantedThese inline skates take me back to my 9 year old self in the early 90’s living my best life! The ride is so smooth! They are easy to get on and they keep your feet pretty dry! Only thing is if you have wide feet order a size up! Trust me! I have very wide feet and I didn’t order a size up so my toes are a little cramped. I’m hoping I can just stretch out the boot over time to create a little bit more room. Other than that I highly recommend these skates!

Perfect Rollerblades for my son!I purchased these blades for my pre-teen son who had outgrown (both size and skill-wise) his previous blades. He absolutely loves the Lightning blades! He is very fast on them and can easily do all sorts of skills on them. Because he is growing quickly, I got one full size larger than he needs, but the extra padding still allows him to use them, just with an extra pair of socks.

A beginnerI am still a relative beginner. These skates provide the ankle support that I need. They keep my ankles straight, whereas, with others I tended to edge more than I wanted to.

Great skates after a long breakI recently got back into skating and decided to get these to replace my well-worn skates. They are a huge step up to my old pair, they are comfortable, the buckle is convenient and I like the design. I planned to replace the stock wheels right when I got them, but they're better than expected so the stock wheels are still on

Excellent setI did a lot of research on what I wanted my first pair of rollerblades to be, and I concluded that the lightning 80s were the pair I wanted. Excellent build quality, easy to take on and off when you are just wearing them to go around town (the memory latches are very convenient), and, though I have no other rollerblades to compare them to, very smooth ride. If you are looking for a great beginner pair of rollerblades that will last you a while, I would highly recommend these!

AwesomeI use to have inline skates when I was stupid young. I was a little worried about finding the right pair 20 years later. After a little research and the easy returns to find the right pair I'm back at it again.

Great for indoor rink and outdoor urban/parkI'm 40 and after 20+ years away from skating I decided to get back into it. These skates are good value for my needs. Weekly trips to the local rink and occasional visits to a prefab skate park (not grinding, I'm just messing around on the ramps). Wheels are a little sticky for the park, but they're fine for my needs. The stock bearings roll smooth and are fast enough. Sizing was spot on. Before ordering I measured my foot and went with the sizing chart, NOT my normal shoe size. They were VERY snug at first. The first week I had some pain, the second week I had pain in a different area of my foot, and after the 3rd week they are broken in and feel great.

Awesome! These skates are awesome!! They actually fit to size and have adjustment insoles to help dial in a good fit. I love that they are also 165 mounts you can change plates. I'm running 3×100 now . I think this is a really great skate for its price, oh yes and they come in a 14+ size. I would definitely recommend these skates !!!

As describedNot much to say here other than they are described. I've used them indoors and outdoor. I'm a beginner so I can't speak for how good they are. They've been good for me though.

Great SkateI lived in roller blades when I was a kid but I've been out of the game for a while. I tried a couple of other skates and they were terrible for me. I saw they were bringing back the lightning and they looked great. I prefer the boot style for my skating over the sneaker style that provides little support for aggressive skating. I've only had them a few weeks now I'm loving them.

Great skates for wide feetThe Lightnings are my perfect skates. I had quite some trouble finding skates that fit my feet. I have wide feet and a high instep. I find the Lightnings very comfortable, without needing to oversize. These skates have lots of nice features that you see on quality skates, and the memory buckles are a unique feature that I would like to see on more skates. They make it quicker/easier to take the skates on and off.

Great bladesI was able to spend 3 hours in these last night on a hardwood skate rink, and overall, I was happy with the skates. I normally wear 10.5-11 in shoes, but the skate size 10-10.5 was the right size for me. I can feel the front of the skate with my toes, but they aren’t crammed in there. The new buckles are nice and let you get your skates on quickly, and they stay nice and tight. My ankles felt nice and secure and I didn’t feel too much movement there. I’ve been reading that soft boot skates are more comfortable than hard boots, but the liners in these have tons of padding and feel really good. I had no foot or ankle pain after 3 hours. My only gripe with these are the wheels that they come with. They walk all over the place. They give you the feeling that the frames are rocked or something like you’re pivoting on your center two wheels. They’re also very slick, so taking turns hard, I almost had my skates slide out a few times before my frames even touched the floor. Comparing these to the Hydrogen’s with the same hardness, there’s no comparison. Hydrogen is are in a different league. The bearings also felt very slow compared to RB’s twin cam ILQ-9 bearings. I understand that using these wheels and bearings keeps these blades right under that $200 mark, but it would be nice if they came with the Hydrogen paired with twin cam ILQ-9 bearings for a little more cost. If they did, I would have rated these at 5 stars. Overall though, I’m happy with the purchase and will be replacing the stock wheels and bearings.
