What You Need:
- Bench Grinder
- 4 25mm long, 6mm diameter screws (to replace the stock UFS screws)
- Appropriate screw drivers and wrenches
- Time/patience
Getting Started:
Remove the frames and sole plates from the boot. The TRS midsole must sit
flush against the bottom of the boot, so the little ridges on the bottom
side will have to be ground flat. You will need a bench grinder to do this
because there is a lot of material to take off of the boot.
Grinding:
Getting the bottom of the boot flat is relatively quick and easy. Once that
is done the TRS midsole still will not fit on the boot. The sides of the
boot, specifically along the inside and outside rear sole areas will have to
be ground down. This is where the time and patience come in. Do not try to
take too much material off at once, or you may over grind an area. You will
also need to take material off of the toe and heel area of the boot. Take
more off of the toe than heel because the midsole will want to sit forward
causing the boot bolts and frame screws to not line up. Taking material off
of the inside of the toe on the TRS midsole will also help this problem.
You will have to grind some material around the toe box of the boot as well.
Finishing
There really isn't a concise step by step process to making the sole system
fit. Grinding the boot takes a lot of time and patience. Make small
changes; grind a little down, then check the fit of the midsoles, then
repeat. The second boot will be much easier and quicker once you know where
you want to take the material off from, and how much. Once you finish
grinding and you place the soles and frames on your skate, there is a chance
the bolt and screw holes will not line up perfectly. In this event, drill
out some of the offending material, and the screw holes should line up
nicely. You will have to use longer screws(25x6mm) because the new sole
system is thicker than the stock Salomon one. Screw on the frame and you're
good to ride.
Pros:
- Larger sole surface
- Back slide area
- Cheap and reliable component replacement
