Overview

The Bauer Vapor APX2 Ice Hockey Pant is the flagship model in the Vapor line. The Vapor line of ice hockey pants has a tapered fit which incorporates a snug fit in the waist that opens up in the legs for a traditional feel that we see in the Nexus line. The APX2 pants incorporated high-end features like Bauer's Aerolite™ technology and 37.5™ technology.

The Bauer APX2 pant features a variety of high-quality materials to provide a professional level of protection, breathability, and fit. Bauer introduced their new Aerolite™ technology into the spine guard to beef up the protection of this pad. Aerolite™ is a high density foam that is 30% lighter than other HD foams and doesn't absorb water. The kidney guard is also molded to form around the player's waist, providing a closer fit that protects the player better. The hip, kidney, and thigh guard are all outfitted with HD foams for some of the best protection Bauer has to offer.

The exterior of the pant is outfitted with a 840-denier nylon that has pro-level abrasion resistance as well as great breathability. The interior liner introduces Bauer's 37.5™ technology, which uses the player's body heat to evaporate moisture as well as release heat so that you can use less energy cooling down and put more into your game. These pants also feature an adjustable extension fit of up to 1" for taller players. Just unzip the 2-piece pant, drop it down to the lower zipper around the waist, and zip it back up for a taller fit.

Comments: I stepped up from a Vapor X6. They were starting to wear after 4 years of hockey and some hundred games later! I found these on sale at a rink when at a tourney. I found them to be more padded in critical areas- kidney, groin and they felt like they were just more padded overall. They are still pretty "puffy" after 4 games but I have taken many a slap shot in the thigh and one smack dab in the groin but I barely even felt it! Great protection. Only gripe? They are long. The small sizing says waist 30-34" (great I am a 30-31") but for height it says for 5'5"-5'9"! So they are long on me and like the previous review, the back pad rides up really high. It overlaps my shoulder pads. I am 5'4". But I enjoy the protection it offers so I'll deal with it.

Comments: Coming off a pair of pro stock CCM MHP 7000 pants that I had been using for years, which were absolutely built like a tank, but finally starting to fray, I decided to shop around for a retail pant. I can't tell you how many pairs of breezers I tried on--RBZ, 20K, Mako, Tackla Air 9000, Eagle X905, as well as NXG, and Nexus, I still could not get a good fit. I tried on a pair of Apx pants on clearance, which weren't horrible, but felt very little quality and padding in the pant. The lining starting to wear extremely quickly for a top end pant, and was morosely disappointed. I decided to give the Apx2 pants a try, and what a difference--night and day. The new liner feels much more comfortable and hasn't started to rub off after good use. The fit is still tapered (which may not be for everyone), but fits a tall lanky player like myself great. The new added +1 length is outstanding, and doesn't feel oddly short like most other pants on the market. The comfort is fantastic and feels the way a top end pant should be. The belt and lacing system feels good, the hip pad feels more beefed up as well. The only minor gripe I have, is how high the lower spine pad goes. Just wish it was a tad bit lower, just a personal preference. Other than that, I cannot praise these breezers enough. Five stars and big props to Bauer on this one!
