*To mold your CadoMotus carbon boots (PRO):
CadoMotus PRO boots are built using new moldable materials technologies, not the heat-moldable sheet traditionally inserted into speed boots. This moldability is active at a higher temperature than traditional material - which helps CadoMotus boots take on the shape you want, and keep it.
Because of the higher temperature involved (100-degrees Celsius to activate the material), CadoMotus does NOT recommend using an oven for molding.
- Attach frames properly to the boots
- Remove wheels (to allow a steady, still position when you stand in the boots later)
- Unstrap microbuckle and loosen laces (to allow the boots to be opened easily)
- Using a heat-gun (paint stripper heated-air gun), heat the moldable ankle areas from the outside - keeping the gun's air outlet at least 15cm away from the boot surface, and using a slow, circular motion to distribute the heat evenly
- Every 1-2 minutes - Wearing gloves, or with a cloth between your hands and the boot, check the progressing softness of the moldable areas. This can take some time, as around 100-degrees C is required to activate the material.
- When the moldable areas can be squeezed by the hand, switch off the heat-gun and allow the boot surfaces to cool for at least 1 minute
- Wearing socks (to protect skin from any hot surfaces), fit the boots and begin tightening the laces - not the microbuckle yet to avoid excessive pressure
- Stand in the boots and remain in your natural skating position, as best as possible
- ** Dealers, at this point may choose to apply vacuum-bags to the skates for an improved fit
- Areas around the ankle that require further forming can be pushed hard
- As the boots begin to cool you can tighten the laces progressively further if required
- Remain in the boots until they have cooled completely, to avoid any partial reversal of the forming
