The Rink Rat Hot Shot Outdoor hockey wheels brings the Rink Rat time tested Mtech™ technology to an outdoor hockey wheels. The Durable 84A outer puts up with the abuse from rough outdoor surfaces while the soft 62A Mtech™ inner core offers added grip for improved play.  This is the only outdoor dual pour wheel out on the market.

Mtech™ technology fuses soft, 62A super resilient inner material with a hard, high wear-resistant outer layer. The inner softer layer allows the wheel to flatten like a radial tire during turns for added surface area to increase grip and control. Using quality, resilient urethane in the inner layer, the wheel then rebounds to provide energy to the harder, faster rolling outer layer.

Comments: I agree with the other reviewers in that these are very good wheels with a short lifespan. These dual pour wheels are fast and grippy on smooth outdoor concrete. Definitely faster and grippier than Rink Rat's other outdoor wheels (Envy). Here's the problem - the wheels de-laminate once the outer layer of 82a material wears down to the inner layer of 62a material. At least they do for me. Perhaps it's because I'm on the heavier side at 210lbs. I recommend the Rink Rat Envy wheels if you are on the heavier side and skate on concrete or asphalt.

Comments: I play outdoor on asphalt, and these wheels have an excellent bounce, have an excellent grip, and are great for quick turns. However, considering their high price, they don't last long enough. Even though I rotate my wheels religiously, my 80mm back wheels wore down to the hard plastic core in less than 3 games!! I am 195 lbs and don't skate like a madman. These are the worst wheels I have ever had regarding their durability. It is unlikely that I will get them again, and only for that reason since they are great otherwise.

Comments: I play on an outdoor rink with a smooth concrete surface. These are the best performing wheels I've found so far, maybe not the best value though. They are expensive but have decent durability and are fast and grippy. I weigh 170 lbs and skate hard.

Wheel Size:
Wheel Size
Most skates require a certain size wheel. There are several ways to determine what size wheel fits your skate: check what's printed on the wheel or on your frame, check your owner's manual, refer to your skate's online product description or measure the overall height in millimeters.
Wheel Durometer:

The ideal wheel hardness is based on the playing surface, your weight, ability and preference. Generally, softer 72A-78A wheels are needed to grip on smoother indoor surfaces, while harder 80-84A wheels are used on rougher, outdoor surfaces to increase the life of the wheel. Typically, players skate the hardest wheel possible that allows them to maximize speed without slipping. See our Learning Center video for more detailed help on selecting the proper hardness.
Hub Size:
Hub Size
There are 2 sizes of hubs: 608 and 688. The 608 size is the more common size and the hub opening is basically the same size as nickel. 688 hubs, also know as micro hubs, have a hub opening the size of a dime.
